High tonnage throughput, clean and accurate product sizing, user friendly operation and operational reliability are just some of the features of McCloskey S130 screening plants that are bringing increased profits and improved customer satisfaction benefits to UK Coal at Kellingley Colliery in West Yorkshire, which has two S130 units with shredder attachments.
The two S130 high energy screening plants, from CDP Plant Ltd. t/a McCloskey Central represent the most advanced 4200 x 1524mm (14’ x 5 ft) portable vibratory screening plant available and offer a significant increase in throughput capacity compared to other similarly sized machines on the market. The McCloskey S130 is suited for those wanting more screening capacity than a 3050mm or 3355mm (10 ft or 11 ft) screen box but not as large a capacity as that of a 6100mm (20 ft) box.
Explains Ian Ferguson, Plant Manager, UK Coal,’ Kellingley is a deep mine using a shaft and skips system to get coal out of the ground to the surface. Currently we are 850 metres deep and 4 miles away from the mine. Our coal is hard in nature and our vend averages at about 65 percent coal. At present we use two McCloskey S130, three way screens, both with shredder attachments. One of which we hire from CDP Plant and the other we have purchased from them.
‘We use our own S130 to size domestic coal for sale direct to the public, ranging in sizes below 55mm doubles and 55mm to 75mm trebles. Anything larger we use the shredder to break down in size. We are delighted to say that the consistency of our product has improved and since purchasing this unit eighteen months ago we haven’t received one complaint about our product.
‘The throughput varies each day dependant on sales volume but the time it takes to load a 24 tonne lorry has been reduced by six to seven minutes which pleases the hauliers and improves site traffic flow.’
The S130 is designed for high performance and ease of use with a 1462mm (14 ft) grid opening to facilitate the use of larger loading shovels and conveyors engineered to maximise stockpiling capacity with discharge heights up to nearly 16’ on the side conveyors. The feeder and tail conveyors are a full 1200mm (48 in) wide and the side conveyors feature deep chevrons and high angle troughing idlers prevent material rollback, spillage and blockages. S130 Delivers Increased Profits
‘The other McCloskey S130, is used to blend dried coal slurry out of old settling ponds directly into our PowerStation fuel using the shredder to break up the lumpy material. This machine runs about eighteen hours a day with a throughput of around 150 tonnes per hour. After all the costs have been deducted we have increased our profit per tonne by £2 on the S130’s predecessor.’ Ian Ferguson says, fully validating the hire costs of the second S130 on site. Excellent Pre and After Sales Service from CDP Plant
‘We have used CDP Plant for many years prior to purchasing the McCloskey S130 and have always received good, honest and swift service which is what led us to approach them for advice when we were looking to purchase a screening plant. Before purchasing we initially went to view the S130 at the CDP Plant yard, and were impressed with what we saw as the design of the machine looked very well thought out for maintenance and screen deck changing and also accessibility. We were further impressed by the S130 when we had one on demonstration to see how it coped with our product. Due to the way our bunker is set up and how coal is delivered to the lorries after screening the S130 was configured the wrong way round. That was no trouble to CDP Plant who went back to the manufacturers, McCloskey who built one the opposite way round to suit our specific needs. I would not hesitate in using them again and would recommend CDP Plant Ltd. to anybody.’ Says Ian Ferguson.
The S130 is powered by a Caterpillar engine with the engine bay easily accessible for maintenance with ample room for technicians to stand and move inside, along with their tools and equipment. Cooling fan, filters, hydraulic tank and other routine service points are all within easy reach.
A user friendly wedge system facilitates fast and simple screen change, ensuring optimum flexibility of the unit. Universal dimensions allow meshes to be used throughout the McCloskey S line to give maximum usability in varied applications.
‘After sales service from CDP Plant has been excellent, firstly they visited the site to install the S130, took time to instruct our operators in the use of the machine and also instructed our fitters in the service requirements.’
